What is the object of the DIAF association ? Founded in 2002, the International Society of Actuariat Français ( DIAF) is an association which has for object « the international expansion of education and research in the field of actuarial science, according to the French conceptions. As such, it notably intends to contribute to the effort of training the junior executives of both developing and emerging countries to help them meet the needs of companies of the insurance and banking sectors, notably the French companies.» Tel: (33 1) 397 6 33 09 What is the actuarial profession ? A specialist of the risk management to which most of the economic agents are exposed, the actuary is in charge of implementing mathematical models allowing to manage at its best the uncertain evolution of the economic environment (Elaboration and fixing of a price scale for insurance contracts, evaluation of financial products, Choice of investments, management of the financial risks). With a scientific background, the actuary has to master, not only the financial environment, but also the legal, accounting, fiscal and commercial aspects in which he has to intervene. What are the actions of the DIAF ?
Functioning Training of actuaries in Viet Nam: Since October, 2002, the ISFA has formed, in partnership with the University of Economics Of Hô Chi Minh City, two promotions of 32 actuaries recruited on a competitive basis in VietnNam. A three year curriculum The first two years are taught in English and Vietnamese, at the University of Economics of Hô Chi Minh-City, with French professors of ISFA and Vietnamese professors approved by ISFA. The students there follow the same programme as the Lyon students . During the first two years, intensive courses in French and English allow the students to achieve their third and last year of studies in Lyon, with the other ISFA students. When they are awarded a diploma ( Master’s degree level), the students integrate the Institute of Actuaries ( IA) and then benefit then from an international recognition.
Example of colloquium : The “7th IME Congress (Insurance Mathematics and Economics” in Lyon from 25 till 27 June 2003 with 132 participants of 26 countries in association with ISFA of Lyon.
Example of seminar : « The role of the actuary in the management of risks in finance and in insurance » on November 21st 2003 in Hô Chi Minh-City with the Institute of the Actuaries and the Vietnamese Association of Insurance companies. Who are the partners of the DIAF ? · ISFA (Institute of Financial Science and Insurance) of Lyon, is the oldest French academic institution created in 1930. · The Institute of the actuaries, the professional organisation of actuarial science, a member of the International Association of Actuaries ( IAA). · University of economics of Hô Chi Minh-City. · Other academic and professionals partners according to the development of the activities of DIAF. The majority of the financial resources result from donations and from subsidies from professional organizations, development agencies or local government, apprenticeship taxes from companies for the training projects.
